Short biosketch

I received the Ms.C. degree in Signal Processing and Telecommunications from Vienna University of Technology (Vienna, Austria) in 2005.
I received the Ph.D. degree in Signal Processing and Physics from Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon (Lyon, France) in 2008.

From November 2008 to December 2011, I was a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Department of Mathematics and with the Geomathematical Imaging Group at Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana).
From September to December 2010, I was a research member of the MSRI research seminar "Inverse Problems and Applications" at MSRI (Berkeley, California).

Since 2012, I am a CNRS researcher with the IRIT laboratory at University of Toulouse. His research is conducted within the Computational Imaging and Vision research group.

Major distinctions

I received the Early Career Award of the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) for my work on Bayesian Methods for Multifractal Analysis in 2017.

Since 2016, I am serving as an Associate Editor for Signal Processing (Elsevier).

Since 2019, I am a Senior Member of IEEE.

    The summer school Analyse harmonique et multifractale : des mathématiques aux neurosciences" will take place 3-14 July at CRM in Montreal, Canada .

  • [01/2022]       Kareth Leon joined ANR project MUTATION

    Kareth Leon from the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga (Colombia) started her 18 months Post Doc on the segmentation and anomaly detection for multifractal images.

    After a few month of transition period as co-responsible, I have taken over the responsibility for the MINDS team from Adrian Basarab.

  • [10/2019]       Lorena Leon joined ANR project MUTATION

    Lorena Leon from the University of Havana (Cuba) started her ANR MUTATION funded PhD on Multifractal analysis for multivariate and non-homogeneous data and application to quantitative ultrasound imaging.

    The website for my ANR funded research program "MUTATION" has been launched.

  • [01/2019]       Joined MINDS Research Group

    I joined the MINDS (Computational Imaging and Vision) Research Group of IRIT and am responsible for the part of the team located at ENSEEIHT.

  • [09/2018]       Open Science Committee

    I have been selected as a Member for the Open Science Committee consulting to the French Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation.

  • [07/2018]       Major Individual National Research Grant (2019-2022)

    My research program "MUTATION" - Multidimensional multifractal analysis: Theory and applications in ultrasound imaging of pancreatic cancer has been selected by the French National Scientific Agency (ANR) for a 42 months research grant. Starting 2019, it will study non Gaussian and multifractal analysis, Bayesian methods and Machine Learning for quantitative ultrasound imaging in pancreatic cancer follow-up.
    Internship, PhD and PostDoc positions will be posted soon.

    I have been appointed a Member of the EURASIP Special Area Team for ''Theoretical and Methodological Trends in Signal Processing''.

    I received the Early Career Award of the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) for my work on Bayesian Methods for Multifractal Analysis: ''For Significant Contributions to Statistical Inference in Multivariate Multidimensional Multifractal Analysis''.

  • [08/2017]       CIMPA Research School Lecture

    I gave a 4 hour course ''Multifractal analysis based on wavelet bases'' at the CIMPA Research School ''Harmonic Analysis, Geometric Measure Theory and Applications'' in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A dedicated course web page with slides, software and demos can be found here.

    The thesis of S. Combrexelle I co-supervised has won the award "Prix de these Léopold Escande" of INP Toulouse. You can download the manuscript here.

  • [10/2016]       Ph.D defense

    Ph.D defense of Sébastien Combrexelle - "Multifractal Analysis for Multivariate Data with Application to Remote Sensing" (advisors: J.-Y. Tourneret, U. Toulouse and S. McLaughlin, Heriot-Watt U., Edinburgh; co-supervision: H. Wendt).

    The work "Bayesian estimation for the local assessment of the multifractality parameter of multivariate time series" [CI44] has received the Best Paper Award at EUSIPCO'16, Sept. 2016, Budapest.

  • [09/2016]       Multifractal analysis toolbox

    A new Wavelet Leaders and Bootstrap Multifractal Analysis toolbox has been released. It significantly improves upon the previous toolbox (2008-2015), including a refined multifractal analysis using p-leaders (cf., [JI16] and [JI15]), new functionalities such as the automated selection of the scaling range, and significant speedup.

    The research project "MULTIFRACS", proposed in collaboration with P. Abry (ENS Lyon), S. Jaffard (UPEC Paris) and P. Ciuciu (CEA Saclay), has been selected by the French National Scientific Agency ANR for a 42 months research grant.

  • [02/2016]       CNRS International Research Grant (PICS, 01/2016-12/2018)

    The international scientific collaboration project (PICS) "MATCHA" (lead: H. Wendt; in collaboration with P. Abry, ENS Lyon) has been accepted for support by CNRS. It will, over the coming 3-years, aim at investigating the multi-scale and multifractal properties of human heart rhythm variability in an international collaboration with Y. Yamamoto (U. Tokyo) and K. Kiyono (U. Osaka).

    I have joined the Editorial Board of the Elsevier Journal Signal Processing.

  • [07/2015]       Giant fresco public exposition

    Our work published in [JI7,JI9,JI11] has been selected as part of the giant fresco conceived by CNRS in collaboration with RATP and installed in the corridor of the Paris Metro station Montparnasse Bienvenue. The fresco was on display for two months in fall 2015 and can be explored interactively on the web.
